A substance which burnt a baby’s clothes at a west Auckland playground has been identified as sulphuric acid. The 11-month-old boy’s parents reported the incident to Waitakere City Council when they noticed the clear liquid at Harold Moody Park in Glen Eden two weeks ago. The council immediately closed the playground and sent the clothing to be tested. Council spokesman Dai Bindoff says AgResearch found sulphuric acid caused the burns. The substance is usually found in car batteries.

The new tool has been built using data from TNS Worldpanel Fashion, which monitors the clothing, footwear and accessories purchasing trends of 15,000 demographically representative British individuals. The classification tool has been designed to help manufacturers, retailers and agencies to position products more effectively.
