More than $400,000 worth of designer clothing has been stolen from a store on Ridgeway Dr. Peel Regional Police believe the same culprits pulled off a pair of break-ins this year at the high-end clothing shop in the city’s west end. Prada and Versace suits, jeans and purses worth more than $200,000 were stolen during each robbery. The first break-in took place in April and the second occured earlier this month.

He went from ties to menswear in 1968 to women’s button-downs in 1971, the same year Jerry Magnin opened the first Polo store in Beverly Hills. His idea, making men’s clothing for women, wasn’t radical. Yves Saint Laurent had put women in tuxedos in 1966, and Katharine Hepburn was an icon in slacks long before that. What distinguished Lauren was his ability to dream bigger than one garment or one season. He gave America a fashion identity.

Karen Millen, one of Britain’s most exclusive clothing names, celebrated its landmark victory by pledging to make a substantial donation to the Marie Keating Foundation. At the High Court in Dublin, Ms Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan found against Dunnes Stores in the first of three cases being taken by the parent company of Karen Millen, Mosaic Fashions. Last night, Dunnes Stores declined to comment on the decision.

Designers will continue to take queues from the early ’90s. We’ve already seen this with the return of plaid and empire waist dresses. Look for more plaid maxi-skirts, as well as the return of flimsy, floral dresses. These looks won’t be as severe as grunge–remember, we’re still in a structured phase–but they will draw from that era for inspiration. The collection comprises T-shirts, tank tops and hooded sweaters. All garments feature a print and the neckline label carries the name of the print designer. Some of the prints are low-key and subtle, and whisper that this is important. Others raise their voice. Katharine Hamnett’s print in big, black, block lettering on a white background shouts “USE A CONDOM!”, while Tiga’s check all-over print calls for quiet reflection.
