Melbourne showcases winter fashion

From the Paris to the Target end of town, fashion trends for winter will be showcased at the Melbourne Fashion Festival this week. Seven Paris runway shows will feature some of Australia’s leading designers, including Toni Maticevski, Jayson Brunsdon and sass and bide. Target will launch its new international designer collection on the festival’s final day.

Church looks back at 50 years of weddings through bridal fashion DANVERS To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church building, its members organized a wedding fashion show Saturday afternoon in the Fellowship Hall. The fashion show featured 50 years of weddings by featuring dresses worn by brides, their attendants and their mothers over the years at the church.

Wal-Mart inks deal with apparel designer

Fashion designer Norma Kamali will create an apparel collection for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in a long-term licensing agreement for an exclusive lifestyle brand. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the designer will create women and children’s clothing, accessories, footwear and home collections branded with her namesake. The line will offer casual, career and active essentials for “baby boomers with an appetite for contemporary style,” according to an e-mail from Wal-Mart spokeswoman Linda Blakley.

By Samantha Thompson Smith , Staff Writer Calling all budding fashion designers. You might want to head over the new Marbles Kids Museum, which is opening the new IdeaWorks gallery on Saturday. One element of IdeaWorks is Studio Style, a space where kids can cut their own patterns, pick the cloth and fit the garment on a mannequin. They can make bags, hats and skirts. And there’s even a small stage where kids can show off their fashions once they’re complete.
