Sulphuric acid burns baby’s clothing in park /2007 :02
A substance which burnt a baby’s clothes at a west Auckland playground has been identified as sulphuric acid. The 11-month-old boy’s parents reported the incident to Waitakere City Council when they noticed the clear liquid at Harold Moody Park in Glen Eden two weeks ago. The council immediately closed the playground and sent the clothing to be tested. Council spokesman Dai Bindoff says AgResearch found sulphuric acid caused the burns. The substance is usually found in car batteries.
Mr Bindoff says the acid was probably in the park by accident, however the findings have been reported to police.
