Working Women’s Survival Show has something for you

– Women today know about kicking back and finding time for themselves, so they lace up their walking shoes and spend the day at the annual Working Women’s Survival Show. The popular show, held at the St. Charles (Mo.) Women’s groups strike back at domestic violence

Monica’s friends and family filled most of the chairs on one side of the hall. Across the aisle were dozens of elderly women with purple ribbons — symbolizing bruises left by a batterer — pinned to their chests. The family’s pastor prayed; Monica’s father, sister and daughter shared pleasant memories, and more than 20 visitors lined up to speak. “It’s not a dirty little secret anymore,” a former police officer told the crowd.

Tech companies making gear with women in mind

And you thought a computer bag was just a computer bag. The folks at the Finnish bag company Golla ( www.golla.com ) say their bags are fashion accessories and that European women wouldn’t be caught dead carrying their computers in plain black cases. The Golla bags are just as sturdy as ordinary computer bags, but lighter, and they have lots of interior pockets and sleeves for stashing important stuff.

Federal Judge Busted For DUI Wearing Women’s Clothes

Judge quits after pleading guilty to drunk driving (WBZ-TV, Boston) BOSTON - A federal bankruptcy judge was arrested for driving drunk last week, but perhaps the most shocking part about the ordeal was that he was wearing women’s clothing at the time. Robert Somma, 63, was arrested on Feb. 6 after his Mercedes-Benz hit a pickup truck on a Massachusetts road. When authorities removed him from the vehicle, they said he wore a black women’s cocktail dress, fishnet stockings and high heels.

Respect ‘not help by women’s clothing’

But relationships and women’s groups are highly critical of the parliamentary speech independent MP Bob Such made in support of tougher rape and sexual offences legislation. Dr Such believes they have misunderstood him if they thought he was blaming women for sexual attacks upon them. He admitted yesterday he had had some abusive calls at his office, but said that, in the main, people were supportive.

The victims were found dead in the back of a women’s clothing store in the Tinley Park suburb and police were hunting for the shooter, Police Sergeant T.J. Grady told reporters at a press conference late Saturday.

Black women embrace roots

As schoolchildren celebrate Black History Month, some of them will learn about Madame C.J. Walker, one of the first black millionaires. She earned her fortune styling black women’s hair and creating haircare products especially for them. In 1910, Walker moved her hair product manufacturing operations to a new industrial complex in Indianapolis. By 1917, it was the largest business in the United States owned by a black person.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 4, 2008 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) — Women’s specialty retailers, which have experienced flat to declining same-store sales for 10 months, could be nearing an inflection point this summer, an analyst said. If the economic downturn in 2000 to 2001 is any comparison, women’s specialty comps look to again have led us into a recessionary environment, Piper Jaffray (NYSE:PJC) Senior Research Analyst Neely Tamminga wrote in a note to clients Monday.
