California Labor Commissioner Distributes Clothing to Those in Need

Investigators from the Labor Commissioner’s Office and the Economic and Employment Enforcement Coalition confiscated women and children’s clothing items from garment businesses that failed to properly register with the state of California. The confiscated clothing items are placed in storage must be “disposed” of or “destroyed” for 45 days and cannot be resold. Labor Commissioner Bradstreet will donate these clothing items to the L.A. Family Housing homeless shelter.

Low Clothing Sales Foreshadow End of the World

If you watched the news in the last 24 hours, you’d think women’s clothing sales were the barometer for the economy. All three major networks reported a 6-percent decrease in women’s apparel sales this holiday season, calling the figure ominous, worrisome and a big deal. The only problem is that the corporation reporting the figures, Mastercard, didn’t say it was that big of a deal.

North Loop school collects clothing for family

By Miguel Martinez EL PASO — A fire Wednesday night in El Paso s Lower Valley destroyed an apartment and left one family homeless. Anira Garcia and her three boys, ages 7, 3, and 2 lost everything they had in the blaze. Garcia has a need for clothing particularly and a fund has been established with State National Bank for finances.

Kids Clothing Recalled at Kmart, Sears

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday it is recalling children’s clothing sold at Kmart and Sears stores because drawstrings at the waist that pose an entrapment hazard. The commission recalled about 13,000 Basic Editions-brand girls’ two-piece clothing sets sold at Kmart stores nationwide during July 2007. The olive and pink-colored knit sets sold for about $17 each.

Billings owned clothing store closing shop

A women s clothing store that s called Billings home for 67 years has officially closed up shop. Aileen s clothing store in west Billings made its last sale Saturday. John and Aileen Bohlinger opened the business in Bozeman in 1935, but made the move to Billings in 1940, at one point operating out of the Rimrock Mall. The business was bought by the couple s son and now Lieutenant Governor John Bohlinger, in the early 60 s. Since 1992 two of Bohlinger s daughters took over the business.

Clothing retailer to open downtown; Chico’s arrival rekindles debate on chain store ban

NEWBURYPORT - Chico’s is moving into the downtown district, a move a local group says could help destroy the district’s character but others say could create more foot traffic - and business - for the district. The women’s clothing retailer will be located at 19 Water St., the former home of the Newburyport Lighting Co., said Ann Lagasse, who manages the property for Newburyport Waterside Group, which is owned by Stephen Karp.
