Capri Dolce brings fashion to Taylor Street

Media Credit: Ryan Calacsan Capri Dulce is more than your average boutique: the store hosts fashion shows, provides internships for students interested in fashion, and more. One word comes to mind when thinking of Taylor Street: food. All types of eateries are located on Taylor from Asian to Italian cuisine and more. Yet there exists a fairly new clothing boutique in the Little Italy neighborhood, Capri Dolce, which brings fashion into the mix.

Since its opening in May 2006, Capri Dolce is a one-of-a-kind boutique, and the only one on the block at 1142 West Taylor Street. Since most boutiques are a little north of the Loop, the owners Lorin Murariu and Nick Cotor chose the name to echo the area in Little Italy. Taylor Street was the perfect place because it was predominantly occupied by restaurants and bars, thus somewhere new to add fashion. Elinor Jamal of Capri Dolce gave some insight on the store.

The atmosphere and decor is a mix of old and new, containing original artwork by owner Murariu and old paintings that were found in the basement of the building when the space was purchased. Besides the art on the walls, customers can also find designs exclusively made by Capri Dolce. The owners design shirts and hoodies for men and tanks and shirts for women.

Jamal shared that she likes the opportunity to give feedback on the designs; the owners always run designs and ideas by their sales associates before selling them. Soon we can expect to see bags with the Capri Dolce name. This boutique is geared towards the edgy fashionisto/a. With trendy brands and looks from California and more, Chicago can too have the Cali flair. The types of clothes include graphic tees, tattoo-inspired, mixed-style clothing for men and women.
