KY Tech students offer fashion tips

Madison Central High School s auditorium was not the place Thursday for the next greatest fashion trends to grace the streets of Paris and New York. However, it was ideal for students wanting tips about dressing for a particular occupation or a job interview.

More than 20 students walked the runway during the student-ran KY Tech Fashion Show Winter Wonderland: Snow em How to Dress, showcasing attire for jobs in the school s programs, including health occupation, marketing, office technology, drafting, automotive technology, welding, machine tools, carpentry and electricity. The fashion show was directed by senior Rachel Long, who organized it as a project for her Leadership Dynamics class. We ve been doing this for a month and a half, she said.

It teaches you good leadership skills and how to be dependent on yourself. You can do big projects, but you have to have help from others. You can t do it by yourself. The models for the show were students involved in a club or enrolled in a class that allowed them first-hand knowledge of the job for which they modeled.

The participating clubs included Health Occupation Students of America, Distributive Education Clubs of America, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Educators of America, Future Farmers of America and Skills USA. The class is structured so each student is a chairperson of a committee, said Diana Gordon, who teaches the Leadership Dynamics class. I have 20 students, so it was interesting to come up with 20 committees for them all to be a part of.
