Cold weather, cheap fashion
With the temperatures dropping and winter approaching, many find themselves slowly trading in shorts and tank tops for sweaters and boots. However, with the ever-changing world of fashion, it can be hard for some to get the runway look and keep up with the latest winter “must-haves” at affordable prices. But, if one asks Barbara Johnson, an employee at Saks Fifth Avenue in Columbus, Ohio it is simple to get the designer look without breaking the bank.
“It’s all about budgeting and patience,” said Johnson. “You have to know how much you can afford to spend and you have to be willing to put in the work to find good deals.” Johnson said all of the trends and styles of clothing found in upscale stores such as Saks or Macy’s can also be found in stores that sell clothes at more affordable prices.
When asked to list some of the big trends for this fall and winter, Johnson said the colors black, gray and brown are the stand-out colors of the season and current fashion trends such as flats and metallics are also in. “Metallics are huge right now,” Johnson said.
“Shirts, shoes, scarves, purses, anything that has a shine and is gold or silver are fashionable right now.” At Saks, a pair of gold metallic Prada flats will cost about $395, while at Target, a similar flat can be found for as low as $12.99. Johnson also said pea coats and trench coats are big winter “must-haves” this season. “Pea coats are a classic - they’ll never go out of style, but trench coats are really making a big comeback right now, especially in black or metallic,” she said.
