Police Officer Crashes Into Local Clothing Store

Reported by: Becky Freemal A local women’s clothing store found itself in the middle of a crash investigation after an Amberly Village officer slammed his squad car into the store’s display window. Amberley Village Chief Monahan said officer, James Drake, broke his left arm and is expected to be fine. Plum Diore, the women’s clothing store at the corner of Ridge and Montgomery road in Pleasant Ridge will have a boarded up window for about a week until a new frame and glass is ordered.

The Amberley Village Chief said this all happened after his officer tried to avoid hitting a Madeira squad car in front of him who was moving to block the intersection where a suspicious car had been pulled over. As officer drake swerved around that Madeira squad car, the chief said the officer skidded on salt in the road and into the display window of Plum Diore. That suspicious car had been spotted early outside the Silverton store, Big Papa’s.

When police arrived on scene, they said the driver turned off the lights and made quick turns to get away from police. It wasn’t until they got into Pleasant Ridge, that Silverton Police say they were able to stop suspects over on Montgomery road. In the end, four people were arrested. Police said one is a 15-year-old boy, the others are 19-year-old Juan Alferto Rivera, 20-year-old Gose Ortiz and 19-year-old Jorge Almonazi.

Their charges include obstructing official business, fleeing and eluding, and criminal trespassing.
