U of A exhibit tells history through clothing Elizabeth Withey,

The historical exhibition of clothing worn by faculty and students over the past century opens Wednesday in Gallery A, on the main floor of the Telus Centre for Professional Development at 87th Avenue and 111th Street. It runs until March 8. Heins, the guest curator, explains that nursing students would “walk across the High Level Bridge and throw their black stockings and black shoes over the bridge” at the end of their second year.

The rite of passage marked their progression to third year, replete with white stockings and shoes. View Larger Image Nurses’ uniforms from the late 1950s, now on display at the U of A.
