Kids Clothing Recalled at Kmart, Sears

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday it is recalling children’s clothing sold at Kmart and Sears stores because drawstrings at the waist that pose an entrapment hazard. The commission recalled about 13,000 Basic Editions-brand girls’ two-piece clothing sets sold at Kmart stores nationwide during July 2007. The olive and pink-colored knit sets sold for about $17 each.

The pants have drawstrings at the waist that are longer than the maximum length permitted by the commission’s standards. About 6,100 TKS-brand children’s pants sold at Sears stores nationwide were also recalled because of a ribbon belt at the waist that is longer than the maximum length set forth in the commission’s guidelines. Sold from July through August 2007 for about $16 each, the pants came in infant and toddler sizes.

One style came in denim with a brown belt, sewn-on patch and embroidered butterfly and one in khaki with two cargo pockets and an embroidered heart. Consumers are encouraged to remove the drawstrings and belts to eliminate any hazard. No injuries have been reported from the use of either item. Kmart and Sears are owned by Sears Holdings Corp.
