Winter fashion trends
As the weather gets colder, many are struggling to keep warm while till staying fashionable. Luckily, with this winter’s growing trends, it is increasingly easier to look good while fighting the Rochester weather. Cecilia Christopher and Colleen Dugan, both sophomores, agree that it is possible to stay fashionable. “I wear layers, especially with the changing temperatures of the Fisher buildings,” Dugan said. Dugan also recommends vests as well.
If you aren’t a fan of the vest, a nice sweater will go well with almost anything and can be found in many stores at a variety of costs. However, sweater vests are definitely not popular. Neither are the oversized sweaters or sweatshirts that your mom wore in the 80s. Christopher says that boots are very “in” this year, and with a little research one can find that they come in all colors and types from the brown “Uggs” to the black pointed toe. Luckily, jeans are always in.
With “skinny” jeans being all the rage and ripped jeans generally being ditched by those in the fashion industry it is a lot easier to wear warm jeans with boots. In the past, if you were worried about wearing skinny jeans, winter may be the best time to try the trend - boots are eye-catching, creating a balance and drawing the eye to the lower part of your body.
To cover all the layers that Dugan recommends, wool coats of all kinds are very fashionable this year, and pretty affordable as well for those of you on a budget. Delias.com offers coats at around $60, ranging from the typical black pea coat to a yellow version with a tie waist. If you spring for a coat, however, get one with pockets. The traditional gloves or mittens do not seem to be very popular this year. To “top” it all off, a hat can complete your fashionable outfit.
